word of interest: qʷeƛemx̄λála

I’m starting a new feature on this website that I’m calling “Word of Interest”. I was originally going to call it the “Word of the Week” but I don’t really want to be obligated to do it on a regular schedule. Instead, when I come across a x̄á’isla word that I find interesting at any time, I’ll post it in this blog.

We’re starting off with this word:

qʷeƛemλála: driftlog with roots still on it

It comes from the root word √qʷeƛ-, which appears to mean “uprooted”. It’s directly related to qʷeƛémḡemi, which translates to “stump of tree in the water (turns upside down with tide)”.

Below is a recording of both words.

Spoken and recorded by Ab Morrison-Hayward.

I’d never heard this word before, I find it interesting and I hope you do too.

Thanks man, I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. I came across this word today so I thought that would be a good start.
